Thai Sakura's stir fry offers pleasant treat

After watching our beloved Florida State Seminoles lose a close college football game recently, my husband and I were in need of a nice meal to clear our minds.

We found it at Thai Sakura.

We had visited the Palm Beach Gardens eatery once before when it carried a menu of Japanese favorites such as sushi and stir fry.

But a full Thai menu has since been added, and we eagerly scanned that section as we were deciding what to order.

Eventually, we settled on appetizers of Thai spring rolls ($4.95) and Thai salad ($4.95) and entrees of pad Thai with chicken and shrimp ($14.95) for my husband and pad gra-tiam with chicken ($10.95) for me.

The spring rolls were light and crispy, and the salad -- a medium-sized portion of mixed greens with tomato, cucumber and onion served with peanut dressing -- was tasty.

But my pad gra-tiam, a stir-fried dish of chicken sauteed in garlic and pepper and served with steamed rice and vegetables, definitely was our favorite.

With a little help from my husband, I devoured almost the entire dish, which was not too spicy but bursting with flavor.

As for his pad Thai, he pronounced it very good, though not quite spicy enough and a little light on the shrimp for his taste.

Still, we enjoyed both our meal and the opportunity to escape the day's sports highlights on television.
